Today is 02/02/20 and the babies are 5 weeks old! Kamryn came to visit, pick her puppy and help me with photos.
These guys picked EmmyLou! Now it's Kim and Troy's turn. Who will they choose?
Thanks for helping Kamryn! You did a really good job! Kamryn and her little brother are Emmy's new best friends!!!
02/03/20 37 days old. The time is going too fast! There are still 3 girls available.
Took these yesterday. It was so nice out I tried to coax the babies out. Only Garth/Kato and Patsy were brave enough to explore the great outdoors.
Tried again today. Everybody came out but the two sassiest. Reba and Loretta. Funny how that always works that way. The two who seem the most confident never wanna' go outside. Today I picked them up and put them out. Reba went right back in.
I was talking to Loretta and telling her to, "Come out and play with gamma'. Come on..." I kept saying it and I swear she knew cuz she'd sass and walk backwards. Shaking her head in defiance.
It's only like 3-4 inches down to the deck. >
He can see YoYo and his parents down in their kennels.
You guys can right click on any of these photos and save them to your computers.
02/05/20 5 1/2 weeks old and growin' like weeds!
That's my buddy Suji. She retired a few years back. Now she just guards her mama and eats cookies.
She was born on 08/08/08. She'll be 12 this year!
^ That cage is in the hall between the puppy room and the living/office/t.v. room. They have access when their mother is outside. Gotta' keep a door or two between Suji and Ahmee. The gang is just starting to explore the hall and the cage cuz mama goes outside during the day now. Back in at night. This girl isn't afraid of anything! Little struggle getting over the threshold of the cage but she won!
Knotted up some binder twine and it's stupidly their favorite toy..
Hey Jaxon, your puppy is chewing on my coat! >
< You take away the thing he's not supposed to chew and say, "NO!" Then give him something he's allowed to chew, and tell him, "GOOD BOY!"
< See the puppy chow ALL OVER THE PLACE!?!?!?! That's why I usually have a big box laid on it's side with the food dish inside. I asked the guy at the dump to save me one. Maybe I should have specified - SOON!
< Annette! Your puppy is chewing on the wood work! What should I do?
< Kaylie now he's chewing on the bottom of the door!
There's the puppy room. I bleached that door and the walls three litters ago. During the long gap between litters. Guess it's time to do it again. After tax season! The floor gets bleached, seems like constantly. Can you see Mama dog? Kato and Dolly being weather strips? Hoping for warm days to play on the deck!
Branden, if you would please, try to keep everybody on the same page. Consistency is the key. If everybody is using the same routine Kato will be the perfect boy in a very short time. They so want to please you but they can't if they don't know what you want from them. Have patience! Even when he's 80-90 pounds he'll still be just a baby and he'll screw once in a while. If everybody is doing stuff differently Kato will just be confused. A very important rule is NO playing with his ears until they're standing up right. That's cartilage and can be damaged. You don't want your Akita to have a floppy ear! Another helpful hint; when potty training NO PLAYING outside. Just until he's potty trained. He has to learn that outside is to go potty and poo. Otherwise you're going to be standing outside, in the freezing cold, while Kato thinks it's recess, playing instead of getting the job done. When he completes his mission THEN, "GOOD BOY!!!" Bring him in. NOW it's play time!!! If you can do that, consistently, he can be trained in a couple weeks. I'm here if anybody has any questions. I'm sending home an article about Akita behavior. Will you have all the kids read it please? Not trying to give you homework I just want Kato to have the best start. Thanks for helping! Please take very good care of my baby boy!
02/08/20 SIX WEEKS OLD!! These guys are so special. They've been meeting a lot of little humans and big humans. Loretta is alpha I think. She was like stalking Emmylou and growling. Naughty girl. I gave her a ton of kisses and that got her mind offa' bein' naughty.
Another beautiful day to play on the deck. Below, is what they can see from the deck. Daddy and Aunt YoYo. Their mama is down there too. Kinda' behind Ari.
These were taken a couple days ago on the 6th.
Sorry, just busy with taxes. 54 done about 95 to go!
Did manage to de-worm them for the third time.
Now he's chewing on the fencing. ^
My guess is they're all around 10 lbs. now.
< Pretty hilarious! See Suji's legs behind the kennel? That's who they're staring at. Suji will be 12 in August. A couple of the pups, I think Dolly and Loretta, growl at her. Suji leaves. She's like, "I'm not going through that again!!! I'm retired, get away from me!"
Second shift! Garth/Kato is pullin' a double.
< As soon as Suji moved away Dolly went in the kennel/cage to confront and growl.
< As soon as Suji moved away Dolly went in the kennel/cage to confront and growl. Course then Suji came back.
< Scott, to think, you coulda' had this one! Hehehe
Pretty exciting! Troy and Kim are coming to pick their puppy next weekend!
02/10/20 Six weeks and 2 days!
< Guess she was waiting for me to fill up the pan and get really really tired of waiting.
< Kamryn there's your puppy! What is her name going to be?
Hurricane, cyclone, tornado?
Then, we came in and had a nice warm snack. Scrambled eggs and cheese in a chewable container!
02/13/20 In 2 days they'll be 7 weeks. Kim and Troy are comin' on Sunday. Then we'll know who's available. Kim said they're leaning towards Reba but we'll see! :)
I think it's safe to say Patsy is available. Kim likes the darker pups.
That's Loretta and that's MY boot. Don't know whose foot that is on her back. I think Reba's.
That's Loretta and I think she's telling Dolly that those are HER boots!
An Akita who doesn't listen. Imagine that!
Look at Garth/Kato's back feet. They're crossed. ???
Reba got sassy with her mama. That didn't work. That's how they learn!
And All Star Wrestling begins!
There's an unwritten rule; The water dish is a safe zone. Time out. Can't beat up a guy when he/she's getting a drink. This goes for all ages. I've seen it a hundred times! hehehe
Havin' a heart to heart... Pep talk between rounds???
You'd be surprised at the entertainment value of an empty 24 pack!
Toooo cold to play outside today but you couldn't convince these guys of that. I had a heck of a time getting them back in the house.
These shots were from yesterday and they got to meet a bunch of tax people stopping to drop off or pick up their taxes.
< He's hiding from his mean sisters but watching the action.
Aside from occasionally stepping on them, which is almost impossible to avoid, Ahmee turned out to be a very good mama! Proud of her!!!
02/15/20 SEVEN WEEKS TODAY!!!
They're starting to get naughty. I was hopin' they'd skip that phase.
Look at the difference in a month and a half. Unbelievable huh?
< They're buddies now. That's Suji again. She'll be 12 in August.
ANYTHING to distract > them while I de-poo the place. Running out of ideas!
Disaster area! It's outta' control. Oh well. I'm just going to enjoy them while I still have them.
Below; Dolly stared at that chewy for the longest time. I have no idea! :)
Kim! Akita pouty > face. If that wants a cookie could you say no? I think not. :)
He looks more like Suji than any of her pups ever did.
And, it's that time again folks. Time for round 684 or ALL STAR WRESTLING!!!
Went to Craig's Meats. Butcher about 10 miles away. Big box full of those for like $5. Thanks Sherry!
They all shared very nicely. Their folks were pretty happy with um' too!
Patsy, Loretta and Dolly are still available!!!
02/16/2020 Seven weeks old yesterday. Troy and Kim picked Reba! Troy told me her new name but I forgot already Starts with an "S" :) It was a tough decision but I'm sure they picked a winner!
Loretta, Patsy and Dolly are still AVAILABLE!!
02/18/20 Fifty two days old. Almost 7 1/2 weeks. All I can say is it's a good thing Nick and Danielle have 4 human kids. They're going to need some patience with Garth/Kato. He just does what he feels like doin'. Totally ignores me when he's on a mission.
At least they quit chewing on each other for a while! Definitely in the vampire piranha stage now! Man those little teeth are sharp!
Think shoveling is hard? That > blue thing is my shovel. I think Garth is sitting on it.
They are attacking a garbage bag of dirty puppy < papers.
< Patsy watching them trying to chew up the wisteria I have growing on the deck. I better make sure that stuff isn't poisonous!
People ask me all the time how I can part with them. Stay tuned, you'll see! I love them dearly but ... MONSTERS!
Okay now watch this guy! The deck is about 4 feet off the ground but there's a pile of wood, for the fireplace, stacked there and covered in that blue tarp.
Below, now he's off the deck and on the wood pile. It's covered with about a foot of snow.
Below, I asked him what he was doing. hehe
He looks at me and leaves.
Climbs off the pile and off he goes! 7 weeks old. See ya! You may have picked a hard card Nick. hehehe
He wasn't going anywhere too fast. That breakin' trail is tough!
Who does he think he is? Pretty confident little guy!
Mean while, the girls, being girls, thought they'd take another look at those steps.
Mean while, the girls, being girls, thought they'd take another look at those steps.
For those of you who haven't been owned by an Akita, see Patsy over on the right? She's 1/2 way into the, "I don't want to" position. It can also be the,"I wanna' play" position. Little Ms. Dolly, with the paw, same message.
< There! See Dolly? That's it. Butt up, front down. "I don't want to! and I'm not going to!"
< Now Emmylou is going for it.
Emmy's like, "Come on you guys, this ain't so bad!" >
Fight or flight? Patsy chose flight!
Oh crap, outta' space again!
