Ahmee n' Ari Two's 2023 Litter

Sadly, we lost Ari, my baby boy from Romania, to bloat in January 2021.

His son, Ari Two, will hopefully sire the next couple litters. Ari Two's litter pages. Litter nickname "Prince Eric".

Just heard from Wilma/Anouk's people. Anouk is doing great and she turned 10 in Feb. 2022. It's time for a new little sister!

Here are some updated pictures of Daddy - Ari Too! I'll put the rest on his litter pages. The link is above. He's the BIGGEST Akita I've ever had. He likes to get in the garbage but thinks it's his job to inform me if anybody else is getting in the garbage. He likes to sass and hug. He'll stand next to me if I'm sitting on the futon then he'll put his front legs in my lap and his rear on the futon. He's definitely a gentle giant and he's found a special place in my heart!

03/27/2021 and we have 4 days til' pups are due!!!

Took these of Ahmee today. She's pretty fat!!! The puppy room is all bleached and the newspaper is stacked up high!

Took these of Ari a couple weeks ago around his first birthday.

PUPPIES BORN APRIL 6, 2022! She's late!!! First "picnic" must not have been successful. Any time now though! Sheesh! Getting fatter and fatter!

Ahmee started labor at about 4:15 p.m. on the 5th. She didn't have the first puppy until;

#1 BOY Born 6:00 p.m. Gorgeous little guy. He's got a large white ring around his neck with a white blaze on his forehead. His nose is white and his tail is 2/3 white. All four legs are almost totally white. He entered the world back feet first.

#2 GIRL Born 7:28 p.m. She's mostly brown with a white tip on her tail. Her white collar goes from the right to the middle of the back of her neck. Right front leg has a white knee sock with white socks in the back. Left front is a shorter sock than the right. She also has a white nose.

#3 BOY Born 8:05 p.m. He's darker than his brother with a little less white. Spot would be a good name for him cuz his white collar has a big black spot in the middle of it. Almost 1/2 of his tail is white.

I was in the puppy room for almost three days straight. Just being side tracked a little too long, trying to get the boys to nurse, #4 Boy was born and I didn't see it happen. I think Ahmee tried to tell me but I missed it. She's not very good at this and left to her own we'd have nobody. I spent a half hour trying to resuscitate him to no avail. It all went south from there. #5 was a very large baby born out in the front yard the morning of the 7th. He/she was stuck too long. As was his little brother #6. Nothing I could do for them.

Just have to be thankful for the three we've got.

You can see that #2 is darker than his brother and sister.

What nickname theme shall we use for this gang?

#2 Baby girl was the biggest at birth. The boys are catching up fast.

Well, at least it won't take me a week or two to memorize their nicknames and tell um' apart.

04/08/2022 Babies are 2 days old and everybody seems to be doing great!

The yellow pictures are cuz of the heat lamp above I guess. They live in a laundry basket cuz I don't trust their mother. Every two hours I go in and let them nurse for a 1/2 hour. With total supervision until this afternoon I snuck out here for a couple minutes and ran back in to make sure everybody was unsquished.

So, since the 29th I started setting the alarm clock every 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Didn't sleep at all the night of the 5th AND 6th. But, I'll only have to do the feeding schedule until they're 13 days old. Never had anybody squished after 13 days.

Occurred to me today that Ari n' Ahmee could throw long coats??? Ari Too's daddy didn't. He didn't carry that gene, but, I think Ahmee could be a carrier. Ari's mama could also be a carrier. I'm lookin' at #3's coat??? It's too early to tell, really, but it is longer than the others.

04/09/2022 Babies are 3 days old and I think if you watch very closely you can actually see them grow! I need to weigh them.

Guess they're a little boring at this age. Give um' another week or so.

Do I really need to keep labeling them? Nicknames anyone?

There are only 9 more days left in this tax season. Then I'll be able to concentrate solely on the babies! Once they're up and cruisin' I'll get a few videos. Those are always adorable! Stay tuned.

04/13/2022 Babies are a week old today. Doin' great.

The photo to the right was taken at a week old. There may be a little guy available. Not sure yet.

Still need to come up with some nicknames for these guys. I'm running out of ideas.

#2 baby girl is still the biggest but #3 has almost caught up. Another week and I can kinda' quit worrying about their mother laying on them.

#3 complains the most. If he's hollerin' I just have to go in and move the laundry basket a little ways from the heat lamp.

Those overly fat little tummies are going to get de-wormed next week along with every other 4 legged person in this house.

Their mama is beginning to get the hang of things. She's starting to keep them very clean and she doesn't like being outside and away very long.

Can't wait until they turn into real people and start cruisin' around. Eyes will open in a few more days. They're becoming aware of my presence and getting all excited. They know what's coming! CHOW!

How about Peter, Paul and Mary? Or, the guys on Two and a Half Men with that maid lady? Help me out here gang. What's Dolly/Aspen's little human think?

04/14/2022 Babies are a eight days old!

This is going to be hard. It's really easy to get too attached when there are so few. Pros and cons of a small litter. I won't have to start them on puppy slop until 3-4 weeks instead of at 9-10 days. Mama MeMe won't get so drained.

The frequent head counts are a breeze.

Little tongue > sticking out. He's sooo cute!

#3's little head > sticking out from under Mama's leg. You can see how much darker he is than his siblings.

The pink area around their noses will turn white. The actual nose pad will turn black. One little dot atta' time.

#1 Boy boy is still the smallest but he'll catch up. .

04/17/2022 Babies are eleven days old old! How about the "Dukes of Hazard"? Bo, Luke and Daisy? I rarely even watched that show. Told you I was running out of ideas. hehe

I try to take a few pictures every day so the first ones here are from the 15th and 16th @ 9 and 10 days old.

#1 Bo looks smaller in some of these but only cuz he's further away from the camera. He has almost caught up. I'll weigh them on Wednesday when I de-worm them for the first time.

04/19/2022 Babies will be 2 weeks old tomorrow! Don't think I'll start feeding them yet. But, 1st de-worming. I'll weigh um' too.

They're starting to cruise around! Guess who was out of the basket this morning? The 19th - Daisy. No idea how she got out. I know her mother didn't have anything to do with it. Daisy's a little sassy tank!

I just went in to check on them and Daisy was out of the big cage in the middle of the room nursing on Mama! Time to put the boards up in the kennel door. Like she doesn't get enough to eat!

04/22/2022 Babies are 16 days old. I've got their frying pan soaking in bleach. Think it's time to start um' on puppy slop. They're so fat and they're actually draining their mother.

Daisy trying to climb out of the basket. They all complain when I put them in it now. As soon as I let them out they quiet down. Little brats! Helps if you stand on your brothers head.

Bo will catch up when they start getting puppy slop. Just soggy warm puppy kibble.

04/23/2022 Babies are 17 days old. We ate puppy slop for the first time today! They were amazingly neat and very capable. Took about 1-2 little nose dunks and they were on their way! Their mother gave me the most trouble. She doesn't think she should have to wait until they're finished before she gets the spoils.

I make way too much, on purpose, for Mama. It's just puppy food, some vitamin D whole milk, or powdered, and hot water. I soak the kibble until it's totally saturated and then use the potato masher. They'll be eating dry puppy food by the time they leave. "Purina Puppy Chow" and "Whole Hearted Puppy Chicken and Pea" I think introducing the chicken, as babies, maybe less allergies?

You can put your puppy on any puppy food you like. Only until 6 months of age. Too much calcium in the large, fast growing breeds, no good! I'd go with Purina Puppy. There are two varieties. I think all they change is the dye. So, I TRY to get the one that has brown and tan kibble and not the one with the red and orange and brown. Same formula so if you can't get the correct variety one week it's no big deal. If you're going to switch to a different brand do it gradually. 3/4 Purina to 1/4 new for a couple days. Then 1/2 and 1/2 a couple days...

I DO NOT think the grain free formulas are good for our dogs but all grain is not good either. They NEED meat! You guys will have to struggle, with the rest of us, trying to feed the most nutritious and most economical... Huge debate. For now I stick with Purina for baby food. I think it's pretty good and the babies like it. It's easy to find, even in the "Quick Stops" and Purina has NEVER had a recall, that I'm aware of, in like 50-75 years.

04/24/2022 Babies are 18 days old. Not much new today. The boys didn't want to eat puppy slop today unless I fed it to them outta' my hand. Just like most boys, they'd rather have their mama.
