Welcome to Page #2 of Ahmee n' Ari Two's "Dukes of Hazard"!
04/24/2022 Babies are 18 days old today.
Their eyes are just opening and they're just starting to cruise around. Finally, little people!
They're a little messy in some of these shots. Just had their puppy slop. Mom's doing a little better with clean up.
04/25/2022 Babies are 19 days old today and I think Bo has a new home. Daisy's new people are going to have their hands full. She's definitely alpha at this point. She was harassing Bo so I started petting under her chin and she growled at me. :) Pretty tough for 3 pounds. Well, she's probably close to 4 now. Luke is just a big blob.
When they're all done with the newspaper and puppy slop their white will be pure white. Akitas are so clean. Ari Two is just over a year and I don't think he's ever had a bath. I think Bo's new Grandma was a groomer and she's, let's say, not thrilled with the idea of adding an Akita to the family. We'll show her! :) Not sure why people would take an Akita to a groomer? When they're blowing their coats a groomer can only do so much. It takes a couple weeks, of brushing every day. Too many bathes dries out their skin. Takes away all the natural oils... If an Akita goes to the groomer on a regular basis, which would have to be more than twice annually during shedding, it would be fine at the groomers. Assuming the groomer has a large supply of our favorite cookies. You take um' once every five years, not so much.
Bo's nose and bottom lip are filling in nicely. Amazes me how that works. And there's Daisy being a monster. hehe
Awww, isn't that sweet? They're kissing. WRONG, that's chewing on each other. The beginnings of All Star Wrestling. That's when I rubbed Daisy's chin and she gave me what for! :)
Meanwhile, Luke, oblivious.
The next month is my favorite. Big enough to be real people but not too big to start poopin' like little buffalo. They'll start to recognize me. :)
Check out this gang! They are Bo's new family. They're thinking that his new name might be "Exodus". They wanna' meet him first and make sure it fits. WELCOME to our Akita family you guys!!!
04/27/2022 Babies are THREE WEEKS OLD today! I swear they doubled in size in just a couple days. I'll weigh um' again. I think Bo is finally the same size as everybody else. Maybe an ounce or two short but he's gettin' there! He seems to be the most friendly so far. He certainly won't be lacking love and attention when he gets to his new home and family.
Apparently Mama didn't wanna' lay down for lunch yesterday. In a couple weeks she won't even sit down. She'll stand for chow time.
It's probably how they start the weaning process. Or, they just get tired of the little monsters all self absorbed. hehe
Now is when it gets more difficult to take pictures of these guys. Nobody EVER cooperates and sits still. I've had a few pictures that turned out to be shots of the deck boards. No puppy in sight.
Keep watching Bo's nose. It will keep getting little black dots on it and the dots grow until they totally blend to give him a perfect black nose.
04/28/2022 Babies are 22 days old today.
You can see how much bigger they are by comparing these pictures in the food dish to the last time I took pictures of them eating. >
And, as Bo will demonstrate, the food always tastes better on the far side of the pan!
< What's wrong with this picture?
05/01/2022 Babies are 25 days old today. I weighed them again yesterday. Daisy was a chunky 5.25 lbs. Luke was almost 5 lbs. and Bo, in a close third, at 4.75 lbs. They're getting their little teeth now and soon I'll switch them to dry puppy kibble. They are becoming aware of their surroundings. When I enter the room they can hear me open the door.
< See, another example of the food tasting better on the far side of the pan. :)
< Daisy is chewing on the pan.
Bo's got a little puppy slop on his face. I don't think he cares. >
Below, more All Star Wrestling which is a cross between licking puppy slop offa' the other guy and/or biting him in the nose.
Gamma's great for teething!
I try to take the same number of pictures of each pup but it doesn't always work out that way.
05/03/2022 Babies will be 4 weeks old tomorrow~! I went in and sat with them last night and Bo climbed right up into my lap.
Also trying to get cute head shots. You can see how well that's NOT working.
While Bo was lounging in my lap, Luke went behind me, into the corner, and took a nap.
They had just eaten and it was nap time. I've been feeding them twice a day now. By the end of the week I'll try giving them just dry kibble.
Their AKC papers came yesterday. They're official~ 2nd de-worming happenin' tomorrow. I've seen no sign of any worms, which is good, but I'll keep it up every two weeks just to make sure.
They're all very confident, course, they are Akitas. hehehe But all in their own way. Daisy sits back and watches stuff. She's the brains of the operation. Luke is apparently the back up guy. He'll spring to action when needed. Assuming he's done with his nap. Bo, checks every thing out. He's put on the most miles exploring.
Below, Bo pickin' on Daisy.
Shortest distance between two places, over your sister. >
All their little tails are starting to curl up over their backs now.
05/06/2022 Babies are 30 days old. We're 1/2 way there. 30 more days and babies will be heading to their new homes!
Free at last! I let them out of the box this morning so I could clean it. They were all very confident but it may have been cuz their mama was right there. They have a little trouble walking on the slippery linoleum.
Daddy, the love of my life!!!
He just turned one so he'll still fill out in the head, neck and chest.
05/10/2022 Babies will be 5 weeks old tomorrow. The time is just flying by.
Bo getting his first drink of water. And his first wading in the water dish.
Now he's eating kibble out of his mama's dish. It's okay, I feed mama puppy food while she's pregnant and nursing.
I've been letting them out of the box a couple times a day while I clean. Today I took the boards off so they're freeeeee!!!
< Yesterday I opened the outside door to the deck. Guess who was first to attempt the big new world???
< Bo's exploring! I'm really glad he's so confident. He's going to need it where he's going! hehehe
Normally I let them go out on the deck when they decide. Since their mama was out there I carried both boys out. They weren't thrilled about it at first but I think they're likin' it now.
They were complaining cuz it was getting warm in the puppy room. Even with a fan. That's why we're out on the deck. Apparently they think it's hot out there too. Time for the air conditioner already??? >
Meanwhile, while the boys were busy being drama kings, look what Daisy is up to. She's checkin' out every inch of the deck.
Below, now look at her! Chewing on the garbage bag full of dirty puppy papers.
< How cute is that?? Havin' a heart to heart? :)
That's the last of the puppy slop. They hardly ate any cuz they were full from eating the dry kibble. I'll let them nurse for as long as their mama is willing. I think she provides good stuff for their immune systems.
I'll see if I can get a video of them next time we're out on the deck. Maybe this afternoon.
05/11/2022 Babies are 5 weeks old!!
Got both A/C units in yesterday and there's a lot less complaining today!
< He was just biting her tail. Now her back leg.
Below, on to the front leg. She puts up with it.
Born with blue eyes just like humans.
These will all turn dark brown.
^ Mom's head in my lap. She's so jealous! Hates when the pups get attention and she doesn't.
These were taken pre- A/C so everybody was stickin' pretty close to the water dish/wading pool.
^ She's chewin' on the little table. You can see she wasn't the first.
Just look at the size of Luke's feet!!!
I think Bo is going to be really tall like his daddy.
He looks all innocent but guess who was the first to make me bleed!
He's finally got a bone. > Something he's SUPPOSED to be chewing on!
< Chewin' on the post. They can't help it. It's how they learn what stuff is. It's also what they'll do when they're nervous. When you see them chewing something they're not supposed to, say, "NO", take away whatever it is, or take them away from whatever it is, and give them something that is okay to chew. Then say, "Good BOY! Good BOY!" Or in this case, I'd take Daisy away from the post and give her a chew toy or stuffed animal and say, "Good GIRL!" Don't punish, show them what's good and then praise! NEVER HIT or KICK your puppy!!! Sometimes I'll grab the scruff of their neck, with a couple fingers, and shake it a little. That's how their mama would correct them. They're going to bite ALL THE TIME! They're not trying to hurt you. That's the only way they know to get your attention and/or communicate. Same holds true. Say, "NO" and give them a toy. Their daddy just turned a year old on March 6th. He FINALLY slowed down, on the biting, at about 10-11 months. Akitas will grab your arm and try to lead you to whatever they have planned. That's normal but it shouldn't hurt. If it does, YOU HAVE TO BE THE BOSS and tell them, "Gentle" or "Be NICE". Pretty sure when my pups leave here they all think their names are, "Now you be nice." :)
VIDEOS!!! If you can't view them lemme' know. I'll e-mail um' to ya.
