10/11/2019 Babies are THREE WEEKS OLD TODAY!!!
< Look who crawled into my lap!!
< And then proceeded to go over and dominate Gunther.
Crappy picture but look at the size of his paws!!!
They can see and hear now. Their white tails are going to look cool against their darker backs. Especially Joey's cuz almost his whole tail is white.
Start stocking up on the Purina Puppy Chow. More on food below, but, one of the reasons I feed Purina Puppy is cuz it's available all over the country. Wherever my babies may land. Even in Alaska. There are a couple varieties. I try to get the one with light and dark brown kibble. The other has brown(s), red, orange... Don't like the dyes. If that's all that's available no biggie. The ingredients are the same otherwise. You can switch to any food you prefer but best to do it gradually. If you have any problems put um' back on the Purina.
We used to feed puppy food for at least the first year of life. Sometimes a year and a half thinking they'd grow bigger and stronger. Seems that's too much calcium for large, fast growing, breeds. So, @ 6 months, gradually switch to ADULT.
FOOD: Many, many, many discussions on what to feed. Me? OLD SCHOOL - I tend to stick with Purina. I've NEVER seen a re-call. 50+ years? BUT, I don't think Purina Dog Chow is the way to go. We used it for YEARS but always mixed it with Pedigree canned and hot water. I think the Puppy Chow is complete but the Dog Chow - Corn is the first ingredient. On the other hand, DO NOT GO WITH GRAIN FREE ANYTHING! Most of you are old hat at this and will stick with what's worked. If you're feeding dry food I'd go with Purina One or Lamb or anything that shows MEAT as the first ingredient. Chicken allergies are common. We've had a couple live to 14+ on Iams. My dogs don't like Iams as well as some of the others. The mixing with the canned was fine for one dog but it's a lot of extra time and money. Which is great if you wanna' go that way. I FREE FEED all my adults and puppies, when they're old enough. Dry food is available at all times. I get my dog food from a lady who gets ripped bags from shipping so my dogs get a large variety. Wellness, Holistic... This can also be dangerously messy if your dogs aren't used to switching. Talking with vets and reading we decided that all dog food companies TRY to fill the bill but they're all probably missing one thing or another. By switching they get variety and all their nutrients??? Something is giving everybody cancer. Regular humans and furry humans. We can only do our best. Read labels and stay away from treats from CHINA as best you can. :)
10/13/2019 Babies are 23 days old. The photos below were taken by Renee during their visit. She and Rich have 2nd pick female. Thanks Renee! Also, thanks to Rosa for holding puppies for me during their visit. They chose Gunther and have named him Koda. :)
Problem, I dropped my camera. It failed to turn itself off and drained the battery. It only gave me a few of the pictures. Cross your fingers, it's charging now...
They're a little soggy. They had just eaten.
< Well, she took one of the boys! Doesn't look like they were feeling very left out. hehehe
Let's hope the camera survives cuz these are pretty cute and we got all the kids. THANKS Rosa!!!
Whew! Camera is hangin' in there! I left it out in the rain once...
Time for a bigger pan!?!?
10/16/2019 Babies will be 4 weeks in a couple days. They kept getting out of the puppy cage so I took off the boards holding them in. They're FREEEEEEEE!!
So far I've heard Chandler and Rachel growl at their mother when she picks on um'.
At this point I'd have to say that Rachel and Chandler are alpha but it's still early!!
Tails are up and they wag when they hear my voice. Soooo cute!
Noses are almost all filled in.
Chandler arguing with Mama.
10/18/2019 Babies are FOUR WEEKS OLD TODAY!!!
Below, Rachel arguing with mama.
They're real little people now. Everybody is eating Puppy Chow without the soggy and drinking water.
< Ross chewing on the blankee.
< Ross chewing on my slipper. >
< Joey rippin' up newspaper. >
Not an insecure pup in the bunch!
We'll see this afternoon when I open the door to the puppy playground on the deck. Supposed to be 65 degrees today. I HOPE! Let's pray for a bunch of warm days before the snow.........
I put a BIG box on it's side and put the kibble in there. Stays cleaner, less waste.
Rachel beating up Joey :)
Somebody else beating up Joey :)
The guy at the dump is saving me a new box. This one took it kinda' hard during the last litter.
Looking like I'm going to need a new camera. I left it out in the rain last year and dropped it this year...
Joey beating up somebody. Rachel?
We all have our moments!!
They already do their Akita weather stripping well. They all love to sleep by the door.
Everybody is looking kinda' gray from the newspaper.
< Hangin' at the bubbler. Haven't seen anybody playing in it YET. Give um' time!
Playing with Mom's foot. >
Below, Mama always lays down by me. She's so sweet !!!
< And yes, that's Chandler biting my knee!
This started making me nervous. They were > both growling. I'm sure Mom is just teaching her but even when mother pinned her, baby kept growling. I finally took Rachel away from her. Probably should have stayed out of it. :)
Off to give them their second de-worming!
Okay, we're de-wormed, again, and we were introduced to the big giant world. I prop open the screen door and sit about 2 feet from the doorway out on the deck. JOEY was the first to come out. He went directly into my lap. Then came Phoebe who also headed for my lap. Ross, who is usually in my lap, hid behind the door. I make a kisses noise when I feed them so they USUALLY come. Wasn't fooling them today!
They look at each other like, "I'm not are you?"
Below, VERY CUTE but sissies. hehehe
I carried them all out and Chandler and Ross lightened up a tad.
< Apparently when Joey is a little nervous bitting brother's tail makes him feel better. >
Gunther's like, "I'm outta' here!"
10/22/2019 Babies are 4 1/2 weeks old.
We tried outside again. Phoebe came out first and then Joey. They're either the most brave or they trust me more than the others. They do spend the most time in my lap.
They all still sleep most of the time but Rachel wins laziest.
My lap has become pretty popular. :)
< Chandler biting my knee!
< Phoebe pulling on my sweat pants! Teeth getting sharp !!!
Pretty funny! They're almost to the age we start calling them vampire piranhas. Long time term of endearment.
What's funny? Daddy is from Romania. Transylvania is in the middle of Romania. Dracula was born in Transylvania in 1431. :)
Did I mention that I weighed them before I gave um' the 2nd de-worming? They were all between 6 and 7 1/2 pounds. Gunther and Rachel are the biggest. Joey and Phoebe the smallest.
Egg cartons are fun to chew on but NOT the styrofoam kind!
< Joey IN the water dish!
10/23/2019 Two days short of 5 weeks!
Another play date out on the deck only this time we invited their mother. That worked on all but two!
^ Well, Gunther got a little sun. See that line around his muzzle?
I finally put Gunther and Chandler out on the deck.
They turn away and I click!
Split second! Nice butts though.
^ Trying to get the bone away from his mom.
< ^ Chandler triumphed in the end!
I just think their mother is beautiful inside and out ! I thought you'd be able to see the color differences while they were out in the sun. Guess not. Rachel is more shades of gray and Phoebe shades of brown. I didn't really pay attention to the boys. The darker pups are more gray.
< Phoebe is pretty comfy outside. Caught her beating up Rachel today!
Out of space again. Time for;
Two, possibly three, boys are still available!!! Gunther/Koda was first pick and both girls have homes. Ross? Chandler? Joey?
